🌿 Day 1: Arrival & Orientation

2:00 PM: Arrive at Maliau Gate – enjoy a welcome drink and light snack at the Shell Building. Take a self-guided stroll through the Information Gallery and relax at the Maliau Café.
3:00 PM: Transfer to Maliau Basin Studies Centre
3:30 PM: Check in at the centre. Visit the souvenir shop for locally made gifts and mementos.
5:00 PM: Visit the Nature Gallery to learn about the biodiversity and wonders of this ancient rainforest.
7:00 PM: Dinner at the Al’Fresco Dining Hall
8:00 PM: Watch a short introductory video at the AV Lounge covering the history, ecology, and safety tips for your stay
8:30 PM: Optional add-on: Maliau Safari Night Drive – venture into the darkness to spot roaming nocturnal wildlife (weather permitting).
If cancelled due to rain, an early Dawn Safari Drive (5:00 AM) may be arranged instead
11:00 PM: Lights out – rest well for the day ahead

 

🌿 Day 2: Sky Views & River Trails

6:00 AM: Morning nature walk around the Studies Centre (self-guided)
7:00 AM: Breakfast
8:00 AM: Depart for the Maliau Rim Observation Tower – a short drive and a scenic lookout over the Lost World
8:30 AM: Continue to Agathis Camp, nestled in hill dipterocarp forest.
Take a 1 km self-guided nature trail nearby, a peaceful intro to the area’s flora and fauna
11:30 AM: Return to Studies Centre
12:00 PM: Lunch
2:00 PM: Head to the Belian Camp Canopy Walkway – walk 100m through the treetops on the iconic Maliau Sky Bridge
4:30 PM: Continue with a 1-hour guided trek on the Educational Nature Trail, following the tea-colored Maliau River
7:00 PM: Dinner
8:00 PM: Optional: Night walk on the Nature Trail to search for insects, amphibians, and nocturnal mammals
11:00 PM: Rest and recharge under the forest canopy

 

🌿 Day 3: Farewell to the Basin

6:00 AM: Optional: Morning birdwatching on nearby trails (self-guided)
7:00 AM: Breakfast
9:30 AM: Check-out and transfer back to Maliau Gate – onward travel begins

Tours are offered in three levels: Easy, Medium, and Advanced.

Short walking days at a relaxed pace, suitable for most visitors and families with children.

Up to 10 km per day with 300–400 m elevation gain, requiring good general fitness.

Visitors with good fitness and multi-day hiking experience, comfortable with longer and more demanding days.

Group sizes are kept small in line with conservation and permit requirements. Specialist group tours have a maximum of 20 participants.
